Thing 16: Playing with the Learning 2.0 Wiki

For this discovery and exploration exercise, we have set up a MCPV Learning 2.0 Wiki through the free wiki service PBWiki so that you can begin to discover how these tools operate. For this “explore-and-play-with-wikis” exercise, you are asked to practice editing existing pages in the MCPV Learning 2.0 Wiki and creating links to new pages.

Discovery Resources:

Discovery Activities:

1. You have been given editorial access the
MCPV Learning 2.0 wiki. This allows you to make changes to existing pages, as well as to create new wiki pages.

2. Access the wiki, and look at the homepage where you will see two available links from which you will edit the pages with your own content, as well as create a link to a new page.
  • MCPV Learning 2.0 Participants
    • Click on the link with the title "MCPV Learning 2.0 Participants," which will open up the page for this subject
    • Click on "Edit Page" at the bottom of the screen
    • Add your name (or Screenname) onto the list
    • Highlight your name & then click on the "Link" button in the toolbar. This will open up a pop-up window where you should choose to make a link to a "new page."
    • The new page that opens is where you should add some information about yourself. This can included anything you want (career information, hobbies, favorite movies or books, etc).
    • Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Uses for Wikis in Education
    • Click on the link with the title "Uses for Wikis in Education," which will open up the page for this subject
    • Click on "Edit Page" at the bottom of the screen
    • Add an idea for how wikis could be used in education and/or specifically here at Marymount.
